No. 2 Ranked University of Oregon Track and Field Team In Town

By Nick Gasparro, Operations Assistant CVEATC

Chula Vista, CA – The University of Oregon Track & Field Team will be holding a training camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC) from March 20 through 26. Oregon Track & Field will be training on our track, gym, dining and staying overnight during their time at the CVEATC. This is the third time the Ducks have visited the CVEATC since 2017, and we are delighted to have them back.

The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field season has just begun. The Ducks are currently ranked no. 2 in the nation, coming off a school record ten wins at the 43rd annual SDSU Aztec Invitational. Next up for the Ducks is the Hayward Premier, their home opener, on April 1-2. The CVEATC would like to wish The University of Oregon Track & Field Team the best of luck throughout the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field season, as they begin their quest for yet another national title.

The Ducks are members of the Pac-12 Conference, participating in indoor and outdoor track & field, as well as cross country. The modern era of Oregon Track & Field began in 1903 when the Webfoot’s (as they were called at the time) hired Billy Hayward as their new track coach. Hayward went on to coach the Ducks for 44 years, producing nine Olympians and five world records during that time. The Ducks went on to win their first NCAA Outdoor National Championship in 1962, and have not looked back, winning nine more since, the last being in 2017. The team also has 12 NCAA Indoor National Championships, and ten Cross Country National Championships. With a grand total of 32 National Championships, 14 for woman and 18 for men, The Ducks are a force to be reckoned with every season.

Two athletes who attended Oregon Track & Field’s training camp at the CVEATC participated in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. These athletes are Micah Williams (20) and Aneta Konieczek (24). Williams was a member of Team USA’s Men’s 4X100-meter Relay Team as an alternat, meanwhile, Konieczek participated in the Women’s 3000-meter Steeplechase for Poland, finishing 12th.
