Chua Vista, CA – The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center would like to congratulate the U.S. Women’s Rugby Sevens Team on qualifying to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. With one tournament to go in the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens season, the Eagles secured a top four finish which guarantees a spot to Paris 2024. Once the final round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series from Toulouse, France comes to a close in May, the Eagles will switch their focus to the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile in the fall. The CVEATC is proud to be the home training center of the U.S. Men’s & Women’s Rugby Sevens teams and has been so since 2018.
The Eagles are currently having their best season since the 2018-19 season, finishing in the top three in 5/6 HSBC tournaments, Hong Kong being the only exception. The only teams ranked ahead of the Eagles currently are rugby powerhouses New Zealand and Australia. The Eagles did a great job of bouncing back after a disappointing 2022 season where they finished in 6th place and could not pick a better season to do so, with qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on the line.
Now that the Eagles booked their ticket to Paris 2024 with one tournament left to play, their attention now shifts to ending the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Season in the top three and being on the podium. As things stand, Team USA sits in 3rd place with 90 points, meanwhile New Zealand (118 points) and Australia (102 points) are one and two respectively. France is currently in 4th place with 78 points and is the only threat of knocking the Americans off the podium.
The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center would once again like to congratulate the U.S. Women’s Rugby Sevens Team on qualifying to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and would like to wish them the best of luck in the final round of the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Toulouse, France with a podium spot hanging in the balance.
