Recap Of The Inaugural Triton UC San Diego Invitational From the CVEATC

By Nick Gasparro

Chula Vista, CA – With the NCAA Rowing season officially underway, The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center is thrilled to host the inaugural joint rowing regattas of UC San Diego, the Triton Invitational (women) and the UC San Diego Invitational (men). The joint rowing regattas will welcome teams from Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University, Sacramento State University, Marietta College, Santa Clara University, and the University of San Diego.

The Triton/UC San Diego Invitational took place April 15-16 on CVEATC’s Lower Otay Reservoir with hundreds of rowers, staff members and spectators in attendance. The regatta serves as an early preview for each team’s conference championship races a month from now in mid-May. Teams participating in the event will have access to our boat house & lake, overnight stay in our dormitories, and dining services (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

“We are very excited to host the first ever Triton Invitational down at the Elite Athlete Training Center this weekend,” said UCSD Women’s Rowing head coach Colin Truex. “We are bringing in some very competitive teams and are looking forward to getting three solid races and enjoying a great weekend at the training center. This weekend has been circled on our calendar for a long time now and we are fired up that it is finally here. The goal is to improve our execution with each race and find the next gear that we’ve been working on at practice. The team is ready!”

The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center would like to congratulate all the teams that participated in the inaugural joint rowing regattas of UC San Diego, the Triton Invitational, and the UC San Diego Invitational, and wish them the best of luck throughout the 2023 NCAA rowing season.
