USA Kayak National Team Gears Up for 2024 Paris Summer Olympics at Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center

Chula Vista, CA – From December 12 to December 20, 2023, the USA Sprint Canoe Senior National Team (USA Kayak) will conduct its national team training camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC). Spearheaded by head coach Shelly Oates-Wilding, the camp aims to prepare the team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

During their stay at the CVEATC, USA Kayak will have exclusive access to the following facilities:

Boathouse and lake

Strength and conditioning center

Dormitories for overnight stays

Champions Food Hall (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)

Preparation Focus:

The team is intensively preparing for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, focusing on paddlesports disciplines such as Sprint, Slalom, and Paracanoe.

Shelly Oates-Wilding – Head Coach, USA Kayak

Shelley Oates-Wilding is a distinguished Australian sprint canoeist and waterman with a remarkable career spanning from 1989 to 2008. Over two Summer Olympics, she achieved her best performance by securing eighth place in the K-4 500m event at Atlanta in 1996. Currently residing in Hawaii, Oates-Wilding serves as the president of Ikaika Hawaii Watermans Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating youths in Ocean Safety and Stewardship. Additionally, the academy provides expert coaching for various water activities in the ocean, showcasing her commitment to fostering a new generation of water enthusiasts. Shelley Oates-Wilding has been the USA National Head Kayak Coach since March of 2021.

American Canoe Association (ACA):

Founded in 1880, the American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It serves the broader paddling public by providing educational programs, supporting stewardship initiatives, and offering competition opportunities for athletes of all abilities. Since 2017, the ACA has served as the National Governing Body for paddlesports (Sprint, Slalom, and Paracanoe) for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Additionally, the ACA functions as the U.S. National Federation to the International Canoe Federation.
