Chula Vista, CA – The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC) witnessed an electrifying pre-season Major League Rugby match on Friday, February 16, 2024, as the San Diego Legion faced off against the Chicago Hounds. With a regular season atmosphere, this clash marked the first pre-season encounter for both teams, setting the tone for an intense and competitive season ahead.

For rugby enthusiasts and locals, the event provided an opportunity to experience top-notch rugby action at no cost, with free entry for all spectators. Adding to the fan experience, Jersey Mike’s Subs were available for purchase, ensuring that attendees could enjoy delicious subs while cheering for their favorite teams. The game took place at Field #5, with free parking and limited seating, prompting fans to bring their own chairs and be prepared with water, snacks, and layers for comfort.

The match showcased the players’ eagerness to hit the field after a winter break, with both teams displaying remarkable intensity from the opening whistle. The first half saw the Chicago Hounds take the lead at halftime, with a score of 14-7, setting the stage for an exciting second half.

This marked the second consecutive year that the Chicago Hounds chose CVEATC as their off-season training destination, fostering a positive and ongoing relationship between the team and the training center.

As the pre-season match came to an end, rugby enthusiasts left CVEATC with a sense of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming 2024 Major League Rugby season, which is scheduled to begin on March 2.
