Chula Vista, CA – The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC) is excited to announce the return of the Gonzaga University Women’s Rowing Team to its campus. Thirty-four athletes, accompanied by three staff members, will participate in Gonzaga’s spring training camp at CVEATC from March 9-14. During their stay, the team will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including the boat house, lake, gym, and dining services, as well as accommodations in the dormitories. Additionally, the Gonzaga Women’s Rowing Team will scrimmage against the University of Minnesota Women’s Rowing Team at CVEATC’s Lower Otay Reservoir.
Known as “the Zags,” Gonzaga’s rowing team is celebrating a successful season, clinching its 21st overall West Coast Conference championship in 2023, marking their eighth consecutive title. They also achieved their fourth-best performance in program history at the 2023 NCAA Championship, finishing 19th overall.
The training camp will be overseen by Head Coach Andrew Derrick, who brings 24 years of coaching and rowing experience to the team. Coach Derrick, who took the helm in 2020, previously coached at Seattle Pacific University and the University of Central Oklahoma. As a former collegiate and international rower himself, Coach Derrick’s expertise adds depth to the training program.
Kicking off their 2024 spring NCAA rowing season at CVEATC, the Zags faced The University of Minnesota Women’s Rowing Team in five races, securing victories in two categories. Following their camp, they will compete against Saint Mary’s in Silver Lake, Washington.
CVEATC extends its best wishes to the Gonzaga University Women’s Rowing Team for a successful 2024 NCAA rowing season and looks forward to hosting them again in the future.
